Mari Kiviniemi has held significant positions in both national and international arenas, contributing to various aspects of public policy and economic development. She was the 41st Prime Minister of Finland from 2010 to 2011 and served as OECD Deputy Secretary General from 2014 to 2018. In 2019, she became Managing Director of the Finnish Federation of Commerce, a position she recently resigned.
She previously held various positions in the Finnish government, including Minister of Public Administration and Local Government (2007–2010) and Minister for Foreign Trade, Development and European Affairs (2005–2006). Elected to Parliament at the age of 26, she served as a Member of Parliament from 1995 to 2014 and worked across many committees. She also sat on the Parliamentary Supervisory Council of the Bank of Finland, chairing it in 2006–2007.
Currently, Mari Kiviniemi chairs the Board of the University of Vaasa and serves on the Board of Directors of Metsä Board. She is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and of Club de Madrid. She also works as a speaker, lecturer and consultant through her company MarKiv Oy.
